A TOTAL of 12 buffaloes estimated to be worth more than RM70,000 were seized by the Alor Gajah Municipal Council (MPAG) after they were spotted wandering around unattended at Taman Warisan Kemang, near Alor Gajah, Melaka, Kosmo! reported.
After receiving a complaint about the animals disturbing the residents, MPAG president Saifuddin Abdul Karim said they conducted an operation on Tuesday.
He said the 12 buffaloes were being impounded until the owner made a claim on the livestock.
The owner must also pay a RM1,000 fine for each buffalo.
“We have issued warnings during meetings and through social media to farmers asking them to care for their livestock properly.
“These roaming buffaloes have caused road accidents and damaged crops,” he added.
Saifuddin said if the owner did not turn up to claim the buffaloes, an auction would be carried out as stipulated under the Livestock Licensing By-law 2012.
>Some 30 fishermen from Sungai Kinta in Pasir Salak, Perak, were worried that their income would be affected after a jetty in Kampung Batang Pelanduk became submerged, Utusan Malaysia reported.
The situation worsened after the river burst its banks due to the high tide phenomenon and continuous rain.
Ibrahim Shafie, 67, who is a representative from Kampung Batang Pelanduk, said the jetty went underwater a few days ago, which hindered the fishermen from going to the river to fish.
He added that Sungai Kinta is usually visited by fishing enthusiasts as the river is well-known for freshwater fish such as lampam, baung, patin, tengalan among other species.
“This jetty is the place where the fishermen moor their boats as well as their equipment to catch fish. However after the jetty was submerged, we cannot carry out our fishing activities,” he added.

The daily said the song titled Bertahan Demi Cinta (Staying Strong for Love) will be released on all digital streaming platforms.
Iman said he was not informed of the release of the song and questioned whether the decision was made due to the couple’s divorce case.
He said the song was recorded some time ago but had not been released.
“I asked Fazura and her brother about this, and they didn’t know about it either,” he added.
Iman said the matter was being discussed with Fazura’s lawyer for the next course of action.
