Man nabbed for disposing dead newborn near Taiping river

IPOH: A 43-year-old woman, who was brought to the Taiping Hospital's emergency department after giving birth, revealed that her deceased newborn had been dumped near a river.

Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Nasir Ismail said a report was lodged by the hospital at 3.32pm on Wednesday (Oct 2).

He said the report mentioned that the woman from Cambodia was brought to the hospital after giving birth elsewhere, but the baby girl had died during delivery.

“However the baby was not brought along with the woman, and it was suspected that the baby’s body was discarded somewhere.

“We then tracked a suspect, and arrested a 34-year-old man from Nepal.

“The suspect brought the police to Sungai Larut in Simpang, Taiping where the body was wrapped in a cloth, and put into a bag, and left near a cemented structure,” he added.

ACP Mohamad Nasir said the case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth and secretly disposing of it, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction.
