Cop arrested in Bagan Datuk over extortion bid


IPOH: A policeman has been arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from a man in Hilir Perak.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Azizi Mat Aris said the policeman was arrested in Hutan Melintang, Bagan Datuk at about 7pm on Monday (Sept 30).

"The suspect allegedly tried to ask for RM2,000 from the man to resolve a case.

"I have instructed the OCPD to investigate the matter thoroughly," he told a press conference after attending a national anthem singing and Rukun Tetangga recital ceremony at the district police station here on Tuesday (Oct 1).

"Whenever we receive a complaint from the public, we will investigate it.

"Stern action will be taken against any policemen involved in crime. There is no compromise," he added.
