Melaka Gerakan wants party leadership to re-evalaute Perikatan partnership

MELAKA: Melaka Gerakan wants the party leadership to evaluate its working relationship as a partner in Perikatan Nasional.

Its state chairman Datuk Seri Micheal Gan Peng Lam said he was voicing grassroots' concerns.

"The spirit of camaraderie seems doesn't exist within Perikatan and this can be witnessed when certain party leaders adopt unilateral action without taking into consideration Gerakan's feeling or opinions," he said in his speech at the Melaka Gerakan AGM at a restaurant in Taman Melaka Raya on Sunday (Sept 29), which was opened by party president Datuk Dominic Lau.

Gan said many grassroots members feel Gerakan only becomes relevant during elections.

"The leadership should examine our standing and status in the coalition.

"We can only be a strong coalition if all parties within the Perikatan are accorded the same status and due respect," he said.

Gan said the party leadership must discuss the best way forward so Gerakan can be a formidable force in championing the people.

Lau, when asked by reporters to comment on the matter, said he would bring up the issue during the next high-level meeting with Perikatan's bigwigs.

"State delegates have their own views and we will discuss all matters amicably with our coalition partners," he said.
