BN to discuss Makkal Sakti's membership at next supreme council meeting

KUALA LUMPUR: There must be consensus within Barisan Nasional on any decision to accept Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party as part of the coalition, says Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

The Barisan secretary-general said accepting friends of Barisan like Makkal Sakti as a component party will be discussed in the upcoming Barisan supreme council meeting.

The coalition currently comprises Umno, MCA, MIC and PBRS in Sabah.

"I hope we can review and re-establish the understanding among all the main component party leaders (on the inclusion of new members into the coalition)," he told reporters after the Makkal Sakti's annual general meeting here on Sunday (Sept 29).

"This has been our longstanding hope, and every year we make this resolution," said Makkal Sakti president Datuk Seri RS Thanenthiran in his speech.

He said that Makkal Sakti had shown unwavering support for Barisan for 16 years.

"Even as friends, we have never faltered. If other parties turned away, we didn't.

"We trust the leadership of BN's Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi," he said.

Thanenthiran also expressed hope that his party would be given a seat in the Dewan Negara, noting that other Barisan allies have appointees in such positions.
