One student drowns, another saved while swimming in lake


KOTA KINABALU: A high school student was saved with CPR but another went missing and drowned when a group of 20 schoolmates went on a lake outing near Residensi Menggatal here, on Friday (Sept 27).

The Sabah Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department said that the victim, identified as Hazwi Danial A Rashid, 14, was found by firemen at 2.48pm in the lake.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at 12.51pm and discovered that a student, Adi Iskandar Abdullah, 14, was rescued and given CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) by one of his schoolmates while another was missing.

"The firemen promptly carried out a search and rescue operation on the edge and surface of the lake for the missing boy before finding his body at a depth of about 10 feet (3.04m) in the lake.

"The student was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel before the body was handed over to police,” he said.- Bernama
