Cut at wet market leaves woman 84 days in hospital, RM46k poorer

A VISIT to the wet market almost turned fatal for a woman in Fujian, China, after she was believed to have contracted a serious infection from a bacteria, Sin Chew Daily reported.

The woman cut her arm when picking fish at a wet market and soon developed a fever.

The wound on her right arm began to fester and she was sent to hospital.

She ended up staying at the hospital 84 days and racking up 75,864 yuan (RM46,000) in hospital bills.

Doctors found that she was infected with the vibrio vulnificus bacteria, commonly contracted from eating uncooked or undercooked seafood or from open wounds.

Common symptoms include fever, chills, fluid-filled blisters, nausea and diarrhoea.

It was reported that if left untreated, vibrio vulnificus infections could be fatal.

> A Malaysian woman is threatening to leave her husband of eight years over his gaming addiction.

Sin Chew Daily reported that the woman, who has two children, wrote on Facebook that although her husband provides for her family, he spends all of his free time playing video games.“If he spends an hour with his wife and kids after coming home from work, that would have been enough. But he chooses to play video games until the wee hours of the morning,” she said.

She added that her husband is also responsible for sending their kids to school.

But his late-night gaming sessions stopped him from waking up on time, which meant the children often ended up late to school.

Her post sparked a debate among Internet users but comments were overwhelmingly sympathetic to the woman’s plight.
