Dr Wee congratulates Pearly and Thinaah for winning the Hong Kong Open

PETALING JAYA: MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong extended his congratulations to the national women's badminton doubles team, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, for their remarkable victory at the 2024 Hong Kong Open.

"Congratulations to Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah for their impressive achievement at the Hong Kong Open.

"It is indeed a sweet victory and a wonderful gift for the country on this special day," said Dr Wee in his Facebook post on Sunday (Sept 15).

"This is their first title since winning the French Open in 2022. It is indeed a sweet victory and a wonderful gift for the country on Malaysia Day," Dr Wee added.

Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah were in smashing form as they crushed China’s world No. 3 Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning to win the Hong Kong Open women's doubles title today.

The world No. 8 Malaysian pair defeated the Chinese pair 21-14, 21-14 in a one-sided battle, which lasted 37 minutes.

The duo also managed to get over the finish line this time after finishing runners-up in last year's edition and the Korean Open a fortnight ago.

Pearly and Thinaah now have three World Tour titles, adding to their victory at the 2021 Swiss Open.
