A NINE-year-old boy in Guangzhou, China, was hailed as a hero for throwing himself in front of his knife-wielding father to protect his mother and allow her to escape, Sin Chew Daily reported.

Video footage of the incident showed a man holding a cleaver and chasing a woman by the roadside.

A young boy was seen stepping in and trying to pull the man away, to no avail.

The boy then stepped in between both adults and with his arms outstretched shouted: “Mum, run!”

The 22-second clip went viral online, with many commending the boy’s bravery.

“The young boy put his mother’s safety first. I can see him growing up to be a responsible and courageous man,” one netizen commented.

While some criticised bystanders for not doing anything, one netizen had this comment: “Look at the cleaver the man was holding. Who would dare stop him?”

The report stated that police would not be investigating the matter on the grounds that no one was hurt in the incident.

> The daily also reported that a man in China’s Liaoning province was awarded 10,717 yuan for being unfairly dismissed after he was caught urinating in public outside his workplace.

The incident happened on Aug 4 when the man, known only as Xu, relieved himself in the drain outside the factory where he worked.

The company fired Xu on Aug 18 “for failing to adhere to ethical and environmentally friendly behaviour”.

Upset, Xu brought the matter to the Wensheng District Labour and Personnel Dispute Arbitration Committee.

After the arbitration failed, the matter was brought to court which deemed that the company had unfairly dismissed Xu.
