JB cops confirm receiving report on incident involving S'porean woman at BSI complex

JOHOR BARU: Johor police have confirmed receiving a report over an incident involving a Singaporean woman at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (BSI) complex on Aug 7.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat confirmed that an Immigration officer stationed at the bus passenger hall had lodged a police report at 12.05pm on Aug 7 and investigations were ongoing.

Earlier, an online portal reported that a Singaporean woman had claimed that she was detained at the Malaysian checkpoint for several days.

The report identified the woman as 36-year-old Atalia Chua, who had alleged on her social media account that she had been detained for six nights.

She further claimed that she had been harassed and pressured to sign a form in Bahasa Malaysia during her detention.

Wong also said she had been released after her brother had contacted Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Meanwhile, a security source at the BSI complex told The Star that the Singaporean woman had been detained for refusing to show her travel documents and taking pictures and videos in a restricted area.

However, it is unclear how many days the woman was detained by the authorities.

"We advise all foreigners entering Malaysia to be mindful and adhere to our country's laws," the source added.
