Shake up in civil service lineup

PUTRAJAYA: The civil service saw significant movement among secretaries-general of several ministries following reassignments that are aimed at putting in place reforms within the service.

Seven secretaries-general have been reassigned in a move that Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar described as necessary to meet the demand for better and efficient service by the public sector.

Two senior civil servants have been promoted to the post of secretary-general while three were bumped up to lead agencies.

The reassignments saw the secretaries-general of the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry and Defence Ministry swap places.

Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali will go to the Defence Ministry while Datuk Seri Isham Ishak will move to the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry.

Their appointments are effective Sept 23.

Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad, who is with the Works Ministry, will be going to the National Unity Ministry.

Datuk Seri Suriani Ahmad, who is the Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Ministry secretary-general, is the new Health Ministry secretary-general.

Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Ruji Ubi will be moving to the Education Ministry, while Datuk Azman Mohd Yusoff, who is the National Unity Ministry’s secretary-general, will be heading to the Human Resources Ministry.

Azman will take over from Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, who is the new secretary-general of the Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Ministry.

Senior deputy secretary-general of the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Awang Alik Jeman has been promoted to Home Ministry secretary-general.

Replacing him is Datuk Abd Shukor Mahmood, who is deputy secretary-general at the PM’s Department.

Also promoted was Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) director-general Datuk Seri Azman Ibrahim, who is the new secretary-general of the Works Ministry.

Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Nik Nasarudin Mohd Zawawi will be the new director-general of the ICU.

Housing and Local Government Ministry deputy secretary-general (management and development) Muhammad Razman Abu Samah is the new Public Private Partnership Unit director-general.

The post was left vacant following Shamsul Azri’s appointment as the country’s top civil servant on Aug 12.

These appointments will take effect from today.
