Three arrested over false kidnapping report in Mersing

MERSING: Police have arrested three individuals, including a 16-year-old teenager, to assist with an investigation into a false kidnapping report in Endau.

Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the police received the report on Thursday (Aug 22) at 5.23pm and commenced an investigation under Section 365 of the Penal Code.

"The report was lodged by a 60-year-old woman who received a text from her 24-year-old daughter-in-law claiming she had been kidnapped.

"We deployed an investigation team on Friday (Aug 23), and based on a public tip-off, the woman was found safe in Rompin, Pahang," he said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 24).

He added that the investigation revealed that the "victim" had given a false report to her family members, claiming she had been kidnapped.

"The woman wanted to spend the night with her friends in Rompin.

"Urine tests revealed that the woman tested positive for methamphetamine," he said, adding that the police arrested two others—a 24-year-old man and a 16-year-old male teenager—to assist with the investigation.

The trio is currently under remand from Aug 24 until Aug 26.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1953 for consuming drugs and Section 182 of the Penal Code for making a false police report.
