Attend FDI events in Kedah, Umno delegate tells Tengku Zafrul

KUALA LUMPUR: It is important for Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz to make his presence felt at investment events in Kedah so no one can claim sole credit for it, says an Umno delegate.

Kubang Pasu division chief Datuk Aminuddin Omar said the presence of Tengku Zafrul, an Umno supreme council member, would boost the party’s political mileage.

"I want to tell our supreme council member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul. Whenever there is a launch in Kedah, it’s better for the minister to attend and officiate.

"That way, it won’t seem like the Mentri Besar alone is there, and later claim mileage for himself and his government," he said when debating the presidential address at the Umno general assembly here on Saturday (Aug 24).

Aminuddin also urged the Malaysia Investment Development Authority (Mida) to step forward on this.

"All inbound investments must go through Mida. Mida too must step forward to show the Federal Government’s involvement as well," he said.

Earlier in his speech, Aminuddin supported the move to suspend party members who went against the president.

"As we prepared for the general election in 2022, we have seen the president's efforts in strengthening the party.

"There are also aspects where some senior leaders were not chosen as candidates and others suspended.

"To me, this move is spot-on as we don’t want foes among us in the party," he added.

In January last year, Umno sacked former Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and supreme council member Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Others punished included former vice-president and Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who was suspended for six years.

Former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan, former Youth exco member Datuk Dr Fathul Bari Mat Jahya, former Johor state exco member and Tebrau Umno division chief Datuk Maulizan Bujang and former Jempol MP Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Mohd Shariff were also suspended for six years.
