220 flood victims in Perak evacuated to three relief centres


IPOH: A total of 220 victims, including 59 families in Muallim and Larut, Matang and Selama districts, have been evacuated to three relief centres.

According to the Secretariat of the State Disaster Management Committee on Saturday (Aug 24), 188 victims, including 48 families, were evacuated to two relief centres in Muallim, while 32 individuals, including 11 families, were to a relief centre in Larut, Matang and Selama.

It said the evacuees from Muallim comprise 128 victims (32 families) from Kampung Pasir and 60 victims (16 families) from Kampung Slim Village, while the evacuees from Larut, Matang and Selama were from Kampung Tebuk.

The two relief centres in Muallim are at the Kampung Pasir Jamek Mosque and the Slim Village Jamek Mosque, while the one in Larut, Matang and Selama is at Sekolah Kebangsaan Matang.

The secretariat reported that the water level in Sungai Slim, Slim River, was 26.29 metres, which is 2.78 meters higher than normal and considered dangerous.

It said the water in 16 other rivers in Kinta, Perak Tengah, Muallim, Kuala Kangsar, Selama Kerian, and Bagan Datuk districts was normal.

It also stated that A121 Jalan Slim River-Behrang Ulu in the Muallim district had to be closed due to a collapsed road. At the same time, the FT 004 Jalan Raya Timur Barat (JRTB) Kupang Gerik-Jeli is reduced to one lane due to a landslide. – Bernama
