Malaysian firms urged to sign up for WCEC

KUALA LUMPUR: The 17th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC), which is poised to be a major global business event, is expected to draw 4,000 entrepreneurs from around the world and locally.

Scheduled for Sept 9-11 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, it will explore and create new business opportunities for Malaysian companies.

The convention, organised by the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), will feature renowned entrepreneurs, industry pioneers and high-ranking government officials as speakers.

The second day of the convention will feature a forum session with 24 local and international speakers, followed by a business matching event on the third day.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to give a keynote speech on the second day of the forum.

Participants will delve into pivotal themes, including how to harness Malaysia’s dynamic ecosystem for global ventures, as well as artificial intelligence in driving economic innovation and competitiveness.

ACCCIM president Tan Sri Low Kian Chuan highlighted the event’s theme as “Reimagineering the Future”.

He emphasised the WCEC’s goal of strengthening ties between potential investors and the burgeoning investment environment in Malaysia and the region.

“We aim to enable delegates to share insights, tackle current and future economic challenges, seek out development opportunities and establish corporate partnerships,” Low said during the 17th WCEC pre-event media briefing here yesterday.

He said there will be more than 100 booths featured during the convention, showcasing various products such as property, financial services and technology, among others.

“The convention will also include exhibitions, site visits, study tours and post-convention business missions.

“Our site visits will take international entrepreneurs to nine states. Besides exploring local attractions and understanding our culture, they will also have the chance to uncover numerous business opportunities,” he added.

Datuk Koong Lin Loong, who is WCEC’s head of Finance and Business Matching Working Committees, highlighted the business matching session’s potential to establish international partnerships, including pairing British and Chinese firms, and connecting Malaysian businesses with those from other nations.

He said the business matching session will start at 11am on Sept 11, which will be launched by Chinese Ambassador Ouyang Yujing.

Koong said around 1,000 enterprises have so far registered for the convention, and the number is expected to reach between 1,300 and 1,500 in the coming weeks. He called for greater participation from Malaysian companies and advised them to seize the opportunity.

The event covers six sectors: food and agriculture, automotive, consumer goods, IT and technology equipment, medical devices and healthcare.

A total of 400 meetings have been planned and successful matches will have the chance to sign MOUs immediately.

Also present at the pre-event media briefing were ACCCIM deputy president Datuk Ng Yih Pyng and other WCEC working committee members.

Low also urged local entrepreneurs to grab this final chance to register for a one-day pass, which is valid for the following: all-day activities, meals and drinks on Sept 10, complimentary business matching session on Sept 11 (in the morning) with over 1,000 entrepreneurs and free visits to the three-day exhibition.
