Woman arrested for causing 'night disturbances' to road users in Johor

JOHOR BARU: A woman has been arrested following a viral video that has caused some disturbances to road users at night.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said that the 31-year-old woman was arrested at about 10.51 on Saturday (Aug 17) at the same location as the viral video along Jalan Austin Heights Utama here.

“Our initial investigations showed that the woman will usually try to get into an accident with a passing vehicle and then extort money from the driver,” he said, adding that the woman had a prior conviction for trespassing and had been fined RM1,000 in 2018.

ACP Raub said that the woman could also be having mental problems and has since referred her to the hospital for an evaluation.

“We also discovered that in 2022 and 2023, the same woman was brought to the hospital for being involved in an accident and also for depression,” he said, assuring motorists using the stretch of road not to worry about any of such incidents.

ACP Raub urged victims to come forward and lodge a police report.

He also advised those with information to contact the police hotline at 07-2182323.
