Married couple detained in connection with death of daughter


GOMBAK: A married couple was detained in connection with the alleged abuse that led to the death of their eight-year-old daughter.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said police received information on the victim's death at an apartment in Bandar Tasik Puteri, Rawang at about 3.27pm on Saturday (Aug 17).

"Initial investigation revealed that there were bruises on the victim's face and lips, thigh, chin and knees.

"The body was sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital for post-mortem and the case is classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 18).

ACP Noor Ariffin said police subsequently detained a 29-year-old man and his 28-year-old wife at their apartment in Bandar Tasir Puteri at about 9pm on Saturday.

"The male suspect works as a security guard while the wife is an ice-cream maker.

"Both suspects have been remanded for seven days until Aug 24," he said.
