PETALING JAYA: The Tengku Mahkota of Pahang has called for a transparent investigation into a case involving syndicates operating illegal electronic waste (ewaste) factories worth millions of ringgit.
Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah expressed his gratitude and congratulations to the police team for their successful operation against these unlicensed ewaste processing facilities in Salong, Pekan, and Bukit Ibam in Muadzam Shah, Pahang.
The team had been led by IGP Secreta-riat’s Anti-Money Laundering (Amla) division head Comm Datuk Muhammed Hasbullah Ali.
On Tuesday, police arrested 55 people, including a man with a Datuk title, for allegedly running illegal ewaste processing operations across several states.
In Pahang, the police received a tip-off on the illegal factories from Tengku Hassanal.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of over RM40mil in assets.
The case is being investigated under the Amla Act 2001, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, National Forestry Act 1984, Environmental Quality Act 1974, Customs Act 1967 and Immigra-tion Act 1959/63.
In a statement yesterday, Tengku Hassanal emphasised his full support for the police’s efforts to intensify and sustain their operations to eliminate illegal activities in Pahang.
Tengku Hassanal also urged other enforcement agencies, including the state’s Enforcement Unit, Forestry Department, Environment Department and local authorities, to strengthen their efforts to combat environmental criminal activities.
His Royal Highness called on all parties to uphold the royal decree issued by the Sultan of Pahang to protect the state’s environment, including its flora, fauna and water resources.
