Elderly woman stabbed to death while trying to resolve argument


KEPALA BATAS: An elderly woman was stabbed in the head with a pair of scissors while trying to break up an argument between a mother and her son at a house in Pekan Darat on Tuesday (Aug 13), at 11 am.

The woman, in her 80s, was sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital (HSJ) for treatment but died.

The suspect’s mother, who was in her 70s, received treatment at the Kepala Batas Hospital (HKB) here.

The incident occurred while the victim was at home with the male suspect, her nephew in his 40s, and the suspect's mother.

An argument broke out between the mother and son.

It was said that the elderly woman tried to intervene, but the man, dissatisfied that the victim was getting involved, grabbed a pair of nearby scissors and stabbed the left side of the victim's head.

After the incident, the man went on a rampage before the public alerted the police, leading to his arrest.

When contacted by Bernama, Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad confirmed the incident, stating that the police were conducting further investigations.

He also said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, and the suspect will be brought to court on Wednesday for a remand application. – Bernama
