Man nabbed after cops find syabu in his house

KOTA KINABALU: A local man was arrested after police found 55.02g of syabu stashed in his house.

The 37-year-old was picked up during a raid by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division at a house in Taman Semarak on Thursday afternoon, said Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin.

He said the team found the man in the living room before he surrendered a plastic packet.

Upon inspection, the packet contained nine smaller plastic packets of varying sizes, each holding a crystalline substance suspected to be syabu, estimated to be worth RM3,310.

“He also tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine and tetrahydrocannabinol,” ACP Jasmin said in a statement.

He said police were working to trace the drug distribution network in the district.

The suspect has been remanded and is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

ACP Jasmin urged the public to provide any information on criminal or drug-related activities.

Meanwhile, the bodies of two missing Filipinos involved in a boat collision on Aug 6 were found floating in the waters near Bohey Dulang, off Semporna.

The discovery was made by a VAT69 Commando team during routine patrols at about 1.15pm, two days after the Semporna Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) called off the search and rescue (SAR) mission.

Seven vessels from various agencies, including the MMEA, the Royal Malaysian Navy, the Marine Police, the Civil Defence Force and Sabah Parks, were involved in the earlier mission.

Acting Semporna district police chief, Deputy Supt Fauzi Abd Kadir, said the duo had been identified as Rommek Tura and Jimal, both in their 20s.

They were reported missing after their boat was struck by another vessel near Sebangkat Island.

“The bodies have been sent to Hospital Semporna for post-mortem,” DSP Fauzi said.

He also urged the public to avoid speculating or spreading unverified information on social media, which could incite unnecessary anxiety and concern among the local community.
