Zahid: 7,000ha of land for settlers

GUA MUSANG: About 7,000ha of land under the South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar) will be distributed to 2,200 settler families in phases, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“The land owned by Kesedar has had the premiums paid and the master title obtained. The distribution of this land to the settlers will be managed by the agency,” the Deputy Prime Minister said, as reported by Bernama.

Kesedar is an agency tasked with raising the incomes of remote rural areas under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, which is also part of Ahmad Zahid’s portfolio.

He also dismissed claims by the Kelantan government that Kesedar has failed to process the transfer of thousands of land parcels that had been approved by the state government for settlers.

Ahmad Zahid also urged the Kelantan government to not exploit their authority over land ownership to coerce settlers.

“In order to change the name on the land title, it must go through the land office. If the state government (Kelantan) complicates the process of changing ownership, it would be unfair to the settlers,” he said after a meeting with settlers and villagers in Kampung Renok Baru yesterday.
