Tourist killed, son injured in Melaka traffic accident


MELAKA: A 53-year-old Chinese tourist was killed and his teenage son was seriously injured after a car rammed into them while they were crossing Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said that the deceased is Lyu Yong Qian from Bejing, while his 12-year-old son is Lyu Junda.

He said the incident occurred when the father and son were crossing the road while on their way to their hotel room from a shopping complex here at 9.40pm on Friday( Aug 9)

"Yong Qian succumbed to head injuries on the spot," he said on Saturday (Aug 10).

ACP Christopher Patit said the car was driven by a 55-year-old man from Taman Bukit Cheng.

"The driver of the car told the investigating officers that he was on his way to deliver food to his friend and was unable to see the two crossing the road," he said.

ACP Christopher said the victim arrived from Singapore on Aug 5 and spent two nights in Port Dickson before arriving here on Friday (Aug 9) for one night before planning to return to Singapore on Saturday.

He added the incident is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
