KOTA KINABALU: A drug "transporter" was caught red-handed after police caught him with 13.46g of syabu in Tawau on Friday (Aug 9) evening.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the 52-year-old foreign man was acting suspiciously before he was arrested at a bus stop along Batu 15, Jalan Apas in Tawau at 3.30pm.

ACP Jasmin said that the arrest stemmed from public tip-offs about drug distribution activities in the area.

“Acting on this crucial information, our team swiftly conducted surveillance and investigations, resulting in the suspect’s arrest,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 9).

A team from the Bandar Sri Indah police station conducted a documentation check on the suspect before carrying out a thorough search of his belongings.

“During the search, officers discovered three transparent plastic packets containing a clear crystalline substance, believed to be syabu, weighing 13.46g and valued at about RM1,100,” Jasmin said.

The suspect was taken to the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division at the Tawau police headquarters (IPD) for further questioning.
