The bill(y) comes due: Goat supply fraud lands manager RM10,000 fine

IPOH: A manager of an agricultural company has been fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here for submitting an invoice for supplying imported goats and sheep that were sourced from local breeders instead.

Judge Datuk Ibrahim Osman handed down the sentence on Shaharani Firdauz Abd Ghani, 38, on Friday (Aug 9) after the accused pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of cheating framed under Section 415 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 417.

Shaharani was accused of deceiving Perak Veterinary Services Department (DVS) director Datuk Dr Ahmad Shafri Hassan, 59, into approving an invoice totalling RM836,798 for the supply of livestock to four pastures in Air Kuning, Kampung Toh Paduka Raja, Pendiat and Kampung Baru Bota Kanan on Dec 14, 2021.

DVS deposited the amount as stated in the invoice into Shaharani Firdauz's bank account the following day.

However, subsequent checks found that the animals were obtained from local breeders in Manjung, Batang Kali and Kelantan, and not imported as he claimed.

The prosecution was led by prosecuting officer Mohd Shafiqzan Suhaimi, while the accused was unrepresented.
