Perak cops bust Buntong drug lab, narcotics worth over RM335,000 seized

IPOH: The police have busted a drug processing laboratory in Buntong near here following the arrest of one man, and seized drugs worth RM337,683.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said police also confiscated a car worth RM125,000.

He said the operation was carried out on Wednesday (Aug 7) at about 8.25pm by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department officers and personnel.

“After monitoring a single-storey house for about 15 minutes, the team ambushed, and arrested a 37-year-old man believed to be involved in the processing of the drugs,” he told a press conference Friday (Aug 9).

During the inspection, Comm Azizi said police found a total of 18,407g of various types of drugs.

He said the team also confiscated various types of chemicals and equipment believed to be used to process the drugs.

“An initial urine test on the suspect found him to be positive for methamphetamine.

“The suspect also has a criminal record with 10 previous crime and drug related offences,” he said.

Comm Azizi said that based on investigations, the syndicate is believed to be active since May this year.

“The drugs confiscated can be used by 42,337 drug addicts. The drugs confiscated are believed to have been for distribution within the state.

“We are still investigating to determine who the other members of the syndicate are, as the laboratory definitely was not run by a single person,” he added.

The case, he said, is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and the suspect is remanded until Aug 13.
