Sabah forum to address sexual harassment and empower women

KOTA KINABALU: A special forum aimed at educating the community about sexual harassment and raising awareness of women’s protection laws will be held on Aug 15.

Organised by the Sabah Women’s Advisory Council (MPWS), the forum, titled the Anti-Sexual Harassment Tribunal (TAGS), seeks to provide essential information on the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act and its procedures.

“This forum is not just for women, men and university students are also encouraged to attend, as sexual harassment extends beyond workplaces to include colleges and dormitories,” said MPWS chairman Datuk Dr Tarsiah TZ Taman.

While the initial event is by invitation only, Tarsiah indicated that future roadshows across Sabah might be possible, depending on interest and budget.

Tarsiah shared these plans after a courtesy visit to Sabah head of state Tun Dr Juhar Mahiruddin and Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni, during which she also discussed ongoing MPWS initiatives and potential collaborations with Yayasan Nur Jauhar to empower women in Sabah.

Among the initiatives led by MPWS is the Women’s Leadership Academy, which focuses on developing young female leaders in government-linked companies (GLCs), grassroots organisations, politics, and youth sectors.
