Malaysians in areas affected by southern California's earthquake urged to remain vigilant


PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians in areas affected by the earthquake in southern California are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local authorities, said the Foreign Ministry.

According to a statement, the Foreign Ministry, through the Consulate General of Malaysia in Los Angeles, is actively monitoring the situation following a 5.2-magnitude earthquake that occurred near Bakersfield, Southern California.

The earthquake's epicentre was approximately 24km southwest of Lamont and about 40km south of Bakersfield. It struck at around 9.09pm local time, it added.

"The Foreign Ministry will continue to closely monitor the developments and provide updates as necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of all Malaysians in the affected regions,” the statement read.
