JKR to recruit 414 technical staff to address shortages in Sarawak

SIBU: The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) will recruit 414 people to address technical staff shortages.

“We are going to increase the manpower of JKR staff in Kapit by the end of the year so they can start working and implementing projects together next year,” said Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas after a meeting at the Kapit State Government Complex on Thursday (August 8).

The meeting was to gather feedback from elected representatives and implementing agencies at the division level on the status of JKR projects.

Meanwhile, Uggah, who is also the Infrastructure and Port Development Minister, said that he would investigate the withdrawal of the Elaun Bertugas di Kawasan Pedalaman (EBKP), a special allowance for those assigned to duty in rural areas.

“There used to be an allowance, but I understand it was withdrawn this year. I will bring this matter to the State Secretary, as there is a request from the ground to reconsider this decision,” he added.
