Water supply to 33,000 in Kelantan back by Friday

KOTA BARU: The water supply to over 33,000 users in four districts in Kelantan – Kota Baru Selatan, Kota Baru Timur, Machang and Pasir Puteh – is expected to be restored by Friday.

Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) said a disruption was caused by a burst pipe at the Merbau Chondong Water Treatment Plant in Machang, which forced the facility to halt operations.

The plant’s shutdown resulted in a reduction and loss of nearly 70% of the treated water supply, equating to about 47 million litres per day.

The disruption affected AKSB’s account holders in four districts namely Machang, Pasir Puteh, Eastern and Southern part of Kota Baru.

“AKSB has deployed five water tankers and six contract water trucks to assist affected users,” it said in a statement.

It added that water operators from other states have committed to delivering additional water tankers to the affected areas soon, Bernama reported.

“Static tanks, with water volumes of between 1,892 litres and 5,678 litres have been placed in critical areas,” it said.

AKSB will provide updated information on www.airkelantan.com.my, the MyAKSB application, and on Facebook and Instagram. Users can also contact Pintas at 15777 for more details.
