Nenggiri polls: Two Orang Asli teams sent to support Barisan candidate, says Perak MB

IPOH: Perak has sent two Orang Asli teams to support Barisan Nasional's Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani in the Nenggiri by-election through door-to-door campaigning, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Mentri Besar said the teams went to the area a week ago.

"It is difficult to gather all the Orang Asli in the areas where we cannot hold ceramah," said Saarani, after handing over the Perak flag to the state Sukma contingent on Sunday (Aug 4).

He said besides the orang asli teams, another team from Perak is stationed at the South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar) area.

The Nenggiri polls are a straight fight between Barisan Nasional's Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani and Mohd Rizwadi Ismail of Perikatan Nasional.

This by-election is being held as the seat was declared vacant by Kelantan state assembly speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah on June 19, after Mohd Azizi Abu Naim ceased to be a member of Bersatu on June 13.

In the 15th Kelantan State Election last year, Mohd Azizi contested under a PAS ticket and defeated Barisan Nasional candidate Ab Aziz Yusoff by a majority of 810 votes.

The Election Commission has set the polling day on Aug 17.
