Senior citizen dies in Kinabatangan car accident

KOTA KINABALU: A 62-year-old man was killed when the car he drove collided with another vehicle in Kampung Segaliud, Kinabatangan district on Thursday (Aug 1).

The body of Jumali Buhari was extracted from a compact car by firefighters and he was declared dead on site by medical officers at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver and passenger of the other vehicle escaped unhurt, said the Fire and Rescue Department spokesman.

The department received the report at 3.48pm and an assisting team from Beluran fire station responded.

The Kinabatangan fire station team joined them immediately after handling an earlier fire case at a factory along Jalan Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu.

“There were three victims. The 24-year-old and 19-year-old victims in a four-wheel drive were not injured, and the victim trapped in the other car was found unconscious.

“After extracting the victim from the car, his death was confirmed by medical officers and the body was handed over to the police for further action.

“The operation ended at 5.31pm,” said the spokesman.
