MyInvois to ease transition


KUALA LUMPUR: With the first phase of e-invoicing beginning today, the government has launched an e-invoicing solution portal to help with the transition.

Hosted and managed by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN), the free MyInvois portal will enable taxpayers to register and perform their e-invoicing activities entirely via the website.

The portal will provide two primary e-invoice sending mechanisms for taxpayers which include manually filing their invoices into a digital form provided on the website.

The other mechanism is through its Application Programming Interface (Api) which allows taxpayers’ existing enterprise resource planning systems to search for necessary e-invoicing related documents available on MyInvois.

It will also help to validate specific Tax Identification Numbers before adding this number to an invoice, issuing the invoice, and submitting it to MyInvois for documentation.

LHDN chief executive officer Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin, who disclosed this, said approximately 37,300 users have accessed the portal so far, with 1,700 having used the MyInvois Api Production as of July 23.

He said the platform would bring about greater tax transparency and compliance in the country through its state-of-the-art capabilities which focused on security, smooth integration with existing systems, and accurate real-time information.

“MyInvois was built with security at its core, ensuring all data is processed and stored with the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.

“It also seamlessly integrates with existing systems such as MyTax, allowing for smooth portal submissions and interactions.

“Robust validation and processing capabilities are also in place to ensure all documents meet the required standards and regulations to provide real-time insights into operations and prevent irregularities.

“With this, we hope to empower users with actionable insights, enabling better decision-making and strategic planning,” he said during the official launch of the portal at a hotel here yesterday.

Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, who was present, described MyInvois as a step towards modernising and digitalising the country’s “ageing public systems”.

“This marks a new era of digitalisation, enhancing efficiency, transparency and accountability, as well as a significant advancement in our digitalisation journey, empowering businesses of all sizes to embrace digital transformation without financial barriers.“Being a free platform will help to simplify the e-invoicing process, making it easier for businesses to manage transactions and comply with regulatory requirements.

“Other than combating fraud, MyInvois is expected to significantly reduce potential invoicing errors while also aligning with our environmental goals as well as boosting our economic growth and global competitiveness,” she said in her speech.

Lim said a mobile application version of MyInvois for ease-of-access and use was also in the works with the launch planned by October.

“The government recognises the dedication of our taxpayers in adapting to the new e-invoicing requirements, especially for industries with complex business environments,” she added.

Starting today, over 5,000 taxpayers with annual turnovers or revenues exceeding RM100mil are required to implement e-invoicing.

As announced on July 2, there will be a six-month grace period from the mandatory implementation date, and those involved can issue consolidated e-invoices for all transactions in the meantime.

There will be no prosecution taken under Section 120 of the Income Tax Act 1967 for non-compliance with e-invoicing regulations, provided taxpayers comply with the submission of consolidated e-invoice requirements.

From Jan 1 next year, e-invoicing will become mandatory for taxpayers with annual turnover or revenue of between RM25mil and RM100mil.

All other taxpayers, including hawkers, petty traders, and micro, small and medium enterprises, are expected to follow suit from July 1, 2025, except for those with annual turnovers below RM150,000.
