Eight people questioned over deadly Ampang apartment fire


AMPANG: Police have recorded the statements of eight witnesses in connection with the fire at an apartment in Taman Lembah Maju, Pandan Indah, that killed a woman and injured a man.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said a post-mortem showed the 28-year-old woman died due to smoke inhalation and burns.

"The 37-year-old male victim suffered burns on his face and legs and is unconscious and being treated at Ampang Hospital.

"We have recorded the statements of eight individuals," he said in a statement on Monday (July 29).

ACP Azam said police were still investigating further to uncover any criminal element involved in the Saturday (July 27) fire.

The police are investigating under Section 435 of the Penal Code for arson and sudden death report.
