MMEA rescues three-day-old baby with high fever

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) rescues a three-day-old baby with a high fever and in need of immediate medical attention on Wednesday (July 17).

Kudat maritime zone director, maritime commander Maurice Grenville Abeyeratne, said they had activated their Medical Evacuation mission after receiving the distress call from the Karakit Health Clinic on Banggi Island at 3pm.

“The victim, identified as Mohd Adwa Faiq Salleh, was suffering from high fever and was at risk of contracting a meningeal infection, as well as convulsions, if not treated immediately,” he said.

Abeyeratne said the baby, who was accompanied by his mother and three medical officials, was taken on MMEA’s Halilintar 02 boat to the mainland, arriving at the Marina Jetty in Kudat at 5pm.

“They were later rushed to the Kudat district hospital for medical treatment,” he said.

He added that the MMAE can be contacted at 088-611858 or the emergency line NG999.
