KOTA KINABALU: A drinking session among estate colleagues in the Sandakan district turned deadly when one man ended up dead.
In the Wednesday (July 10) incident, a group of friends were believed to have gathered for a late night drinking session at one of the workers’ quarters in Segaliud.
In the midst of it, a misunderstanding was said to have sparked, resulting in one of the estate workers attacking the victim, a 43-year-old migrant worker, with a sharp object.
Sandakan acting police chief Supt Ramasamy Kuppan said the matter came to light when the victim’s lifeless body was found behind the workers’ quarters at around 6am, Thursday (July 11).
“A police report was lodged and a team of investigators had gone to the scene where they found the victim with slash marks behind the head and neck,” he said in a statement, Saturday (July 13).
Medical officials at the scene pronounced the victim dead and a manhunt is being mounted for the suspect, he said.
Supt Ramasamy said the suspect, also a migrant worker, has fled and is being hunted.
He called on those with information about this case and the suspect’s whereabouts to assist cops in investigations.
