MCMC, police record activist’s statement

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in collaboration with the police, have recorded the statement of social activist Hishamuddin Md Rais at the Brickfields police headquarters to assist investigations into an ongoing case.In a statement yesterday, MCMC said the commission had served a notice of attendance to Hishamuddin according to procedures.

However, it said Hishamuddin was not the subject of the investigation in the case, which reportedly involves insulting content believed to have been re-shared through his “TukarTiub” blog.

“No arrests or device seizures were made.

“The recording of his statement was completed at 6.45pm (Thursday),” the statement read.

In a Bernama report, MCMC was quoted as saying that any investigation carried out by the commission on any individual is in accordance with the provisions of the law.

On Thursday, a news portal reported that the social activist was questioned by the police for more than two hours, allegedly pertaining to a blog post he made dated April 25, which contained questions about Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s health status.
