Man falls to death, another nabbed in botched cable theft in Kajang


KAJANG: A man fell to his death while another was detained after a failed attempt to steal copper cables from an apartment in Kajang Utama.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said the police were alerted to the attempt to steal the cables at about 8.20pm on Wednesday (June 26).

"A security guard managed to apprehend a suspect but his accomplice is believed to have fallen from the building when he was trying to flee. He fell as he was jumping to another floor," he said when contacted on Thursday (June 27).

The 29-year-old suspect who fell was confirmed to have died by a team of paramedics from Kajang Hospital, he added.

"The surviving suspect, a 31-year-old man, was caught with six rolls of copper cables along with several tools used to cut the cables.

"He has eight prior criminal records and tested positive for methamphetamine while the deceased suspect had 10 prior criminal records," he said.

The theft is classified under Section 413A of the Penal Code while the falling incident is classified as sudden death, he said.

ACP Naazron urged those with information on the incident to contact investigating officer Insp Suresh Krishnan at 017-4333795 or any nearest police station to assist with the investigation.
