10 students among those hurt in Kudat collision

KOTA KINABALU: Thirteen people, including 10 secondary school students, were hurt in a collision involving a car and a van in Sabah’s northern Kudat district.

Firemen were alerted over the mishap at 6.29pm on Monday (June 24).

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer Riki Mohan Singh Ramday said a team from the Kudat station and an emergency medical response services unit were immediately rushed to the area.

He said that when they reached the scene, they established that the accident involved a van carrying the students and two others travelling in a car.

“The two trapped victims (in the car) were reported to have suffered serious injuries and were rescued by firemen,” he said when contacted.

“The van driver (a man) and 10 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sikuati I, including five boys and five girls, were also reported to be injured,” he added.

Riki said the victims were given first aid by the medical response team and a team from the Health Ministry at the scene.

He added that the victims were then sent to the hospital using the emergency response vehicle and an ambulance for further treatment.

He said the operation ended at 7.40pm.
