SAR ongoing for missing fisherman off Pulau Indah


KLANG: A fisherman is still missing after a boat capsized off Pulau Indah here during bad weather.

The Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said the incident occurred at 8am on Sunday (June 23), 1.8 nautical miles (3.33km) off Pantai Acheh, Pulau Indah.

It said in a statement that the two fishermen were not wearing lifejackets when their fibreglass boat capsized.

"Armizam Ibrahim, 43, was saved by paddling towards the boat and was found by a boat pilot from the port, while his relative Mohd Fazil Pajian, aged 36, is still missing.

"As soon as the report was received, the MMEA activated search and rescue (SAR) operations from 5pm yesterday until 7.30pm.

"(The SAR) was then postponed due to bad weather and poor visibility that affected operations," Selangor MMEA director Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said in the statement issued on Monday (June 24).

Operations resumed at 7am Monday with a police plane and five assets from various agencies, including the marine police and the Fire and Rescue department, also deployed.

"The MMEA advises the maritime community to always be aware of security measures at sea... to avoid unwanted incidents," Capt Muhaimin added.
