AMPANG: A 20-year-old Myanmar national has been detained for allegedly raping a Rohingya teen at a house in Taman Tasik Permai.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the suspect went to the 14-year-old girl's home at about 3am on May 25, under the pretext of informing her that her father was unwell.

"He tested negative for drugs and has been remanded until June 28," he said on Saturday (June 22).

The suspect was detained on Friday (June 21) following an investigation, ACP Mohd Azam said.

ACP Mohd Azam said the case is classified under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, which carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence and whipping upon conviction.
