JOHOR BARU: A man has been nabbed after an attempt to bribe the police with RM18,000 failed.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the 51-year-old man was trying to prevent the police from taking action against his worker, who was caught with 60 boxes of untaxed alcohol.

“The man tried to offer the money several times despite repeatedly being told to stop doing so,” he said in a press conference at the Seri Alam police headquarters here on Thursday (June 20).

He said that the police had earlier carried out a raid in Taman Air Biru in Pasir Gudang where they found 60 boxes of alcohol worth about RM67,710.

“A 48-year-old Nepali man was arrested after he was found with the alcohol, believed to be untaxed,” he said.

He said the employer has been handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further investigations under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.

“Meanwhile, the employee was arrested under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for the smuggling of untaxed goods and is being remanded for five days, starting from Thursday,” he said.
