Navy man killed in Johor road accident

KOTA TINGGI: A 24-year-old Royal Malaysian Navy member was killed in an accident after being run over by a vehicle on Jalan Pularek, Pengerang.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said the victim, who was riding on a motorcycle, had fallen off after hitting a dog that was crossing the road at 8.40pm on Friday (June 7).

“Initial investigation revealed that the victim was on his way back to the Navy camp. While on the way, the victim had run over a dog that was crossing the road.

“He then fell and was run over by an incoming vehicle. The road was dark as there were no street lamps in the area,” he said in a statement here on Saturday (June 8).

The victim, who was stationed at KD Sultan Ismail in Tanjung Pengelih, sustained severe head and body injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The victim's body has been brought to the forensic unit of the Kota Tinggi Hospital to help with the investigation.

“The 22-year-old vehicle driver was unharmed,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act of 1987.
