KUALA LUMPUR: The disabled ehailing driver who claimed he was assaulted by a member of a VIP escort spent more than four hours at Bukit Aman giving his statement in relation to the incident.
Ong Ing Keong, 46, entered the federal police headquarters at about 10.40am and left at about 3.30pm yesterday.
He was accompanied by Lawyers for Liberty’s Latheefa Koya and N. Surendran as well as a sign language interpreter.
Surendran said Ong’s statement was recorded by officers from the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS).
“JIPS officers were conducting an internal inquiry on the assault involving Ong and indicated that the perpetrator was an escort with the police, so they are investigating possible misconduct.
“They are also investigating circumstances surrounding the withdrawal of the victim’s initial report, the supposed settlement and matters that took place at the Brickfields police headquarters,” he told reporters outside Bukit Aman yesterday.
Surendran said the officers took very detailed statements.
Last week, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the police received a report on the assault from the disabled driver at 1pm on May 28.
However, he said the victim then lodged a second report at 9.59pm the same day, claiming the matter was resolved and that he did not want to prolong the case.
The victim also claimed that he was offered RM800 to settle the case.
Surendran said investigators should disclose what took place as the case is of public interest.
He also said the investigation into the assault is being carried out by Brickfields police.
“We hope both investigations will be concluded swiftly and for the Attorney General’s Chambers to make a quick decision,” he said.
Surendran said he does not rule out the possibility that Ong would be called up again as there are two separate investigations.
Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said police would conduct a thorough probe and call up all parties involved.
