At least 40,000 visitors attracted to Melaka's new tourism initiative, says state govt


MELAKA: At least 40,000 visitors came to the "Melaka Bila Larut Malam" (Melaka NightLife) initiative here on Saturday (June 1), says Melaka Chief Minister's press secretary Ezlyn Fardiha Zainal.

She said on Sunday (June 2) morning that various attractions such as the Melaka Zoo and River Cruise received a significant number of visitors.

The "Melaka Bila Larut Malam" initiative was launched by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf to boost the tourism industry in the state.

Earlier, Ab Rauf said discounted prices were offered to tourists opting for sightseeing adventures after dark.

He added that some of the participants in the 6pm-to-midnight initiative are Uptown Pahlawan Walk, Iconic Jonker Walk, Melaka's floating market, One Altitude Melaka and Leypark Station in Ayer Keroh.

Meanwhile, hotelier Dennis Samford said he witnessed an increase in room occupancy after the state government launched the initiative.

He said most tourists wanted to experience after-dark tourism and discounted prices for entry into attractions and the river cruise.
