Senior citizen feared drowned in Segamat river


SEGAMAT: A search and rescue operation is being conducted to find a senior citizen who has fallen into Sungai Kampung Balai Badang near Buloh Kasap here.

Segamat Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Zuraimi Harun said they received a distress call about the incident at 4.47pm on Friday (May 24).

“A woman reported that her 66-year-old husband has been missing since 9am on Friday (May 24). The victim may have fallen from his boat into Sungai Kampung Balai Badang.

“We immediately carried out surveillance around the river from the point the victim is believed to have gone missing. The operation is still ongoing at the location,” he said here on Saturday (May 25).

Zuraimi added that a total of 14 firefighters from the Segamat and Bandar Baru Segamat fire stations were deployed to the scene.

He said the station also deployed its assets, including a boat, a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), one Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicle, and two off-road vehicles for the search and rescue (SAR) operation.
