Man who attacked mum to go for psych evaluation

KUALA KANGSAR: A jobless man who allegedly hit his mother with a spanner while she was performing her prayers has been ordered by the Sessions Court here to be sent for psychiatric observation.

Judge Rohaida Ishak ordered Mohamad Helmi Hamzah, 29, to be sent to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan following a request by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Firdaus Nor Azlan.

Bernama reported that Mohamad Helmi raised his shoulders when the charge was read to him, but no plea was recorded.

He was unrepresented.

He is charged with voluntarily hurting Noraina Ismail, 54, with a dangerous weapon at about 6.30am on May 21 in a house in Kampung Bongor, Gerik.

The court set June 24 for mention.
