Lorry driver dies in crash on NSE


TANGKAK: A lorry driver died after the vehicle he was in crashed into another lorry on the North-South Expressway (NSE) near here.

Tangkak Fire and Rescue Department chief Rafiah Aziz said they received an emergency call at 10.19am on Tuesday (May 14).

She said 21 firemen from the Tangkak and Bukit Gambir fire stations were deployed to the scene.

"The 53-year-old driver, who was pinned in his seat, was confirmed dead by a Health Ministry medical officer," Rafiah said in a statement.

She said the other lorry driver, a 57-year-old man, managed to crawl out from his vehicle and was treated by a medical team.

"He was later transferred to a nearby hospital while the deceased was handed over to police for further action," added Rafiah, adding that the operation ended at 11.07am.
