KOTA KINABALU: Taiwanese actress Ji Qin and her husband Zax Wang, a former member of the boy band 5566, made waves on social media after they successfully climbed Mount Kinabalu recently.

The show business personalities proudly announced their successful ascent of the 4,095m mountain, which also holds the distinction of being the third-highest peak on an island.

In a captivating 32-minute YouTube video on their channel, the couple shared their journey from Timpohon Gate up to the summit.

The duo, accompanied by five others, started their journey at 8.30am, reaching the Laban Rata rest house at an elevation of 3, 272m above sea level about five hours and 48 minutes later.

They resumed the climb at 2.25am and arrived at the registration counter at 4.15am. This station closes at 5.30am, and anyone arriving later is not allowed to proceed to the summit.

Just about 30m from the summit, Zax Wang was heard offering words of encouragement to his wife, who appeared fatigued.

“The whole appearance of this mountain, the entire form, it truly has an imperial presence ... so beautiful. No wonder it is called a sacred mountain. It’s just too beautiful,” he said upon reaching the summit.

Ji Qin later admitted: “The last part was extremely tiring. I felt really out of breath. But the scenery is truly beautiful.”

They also commended the mountain guides and described them as “really considerate, when you are out of energy, they are there for you”.

During their descent, they found it difficult to bid farewell to the mountain.

Additionally, they paused at the 8km mark to capture a photo holding a RM100 note with the South Peak in the background, mirroring the image on the currency.

The video has garnered 19,918 views to date.

In March, South Korean actor, singer and model Lee Min Ki also posted photos of his conquest of Mount Kinabalu on Instagram.
