MELAKA: A 34-year-old civil servant and an ex-policeman are among three suspects arrested here for alleged involvement in gang robbery.
Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah said the 33-year-old former policeman was expelled from the force for disciplinary problems.
The third suspect, aged 38, is the son of former police personnel who both passed away due to illness between 2020 and 2022, he added.
DCP Zainol said the civil servant, attached to a key department in the state, had no criminal record but tested positive for drugs.
"The three were detained in raids on their homes in Jasin and Tehel on Wednesday (May 8)," he said on Thursday (May 9).
DCP Zainol said only the 38-year-old suspect has three prior offences on his record.
The former policeman also tested positive for drugs, he added.
According to DCP Zainol, the suspects allegedly robbed a grocer's, a convenience store and telecommunications shop at separate locations in the Melaka Tengah district on Tuesday (May 7).
He said one suspect was reported to have pointed an object resembling a gun at the victims during the robberies.
He said police also confiscated three vehicles, among other items, during the raids and added that the suspects have been remanded for seven days from Thursday to facilitate the investigation.
