Eligible early voters comprised 625 police and 238 military personnel and their spouses, Bernama reported.

The by-election is being fought between Pang Sock Tao of Pakatan Harapan, Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainuddin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

According to the Election Commission data, in the state polls last year, Perikatan garnered 77% of all early votes cast, while 21% went to Pakatan.

The by-election was called following the death of incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 due to cancer.

The rest of the constituency’s 40,226 registered voters will cast their ballots on May 11.
